My fitness journey started when I was a kid. I grew up playing sports—mostly basketball and baseball—and trained hard to improve my performance. I also swam and ran cross country to build endurance.
In college, as my competitive athletic career wound down, I shifted to lifting full-time with a bodybuilding-style approach. My competitive nature led me to enter a few bodybuilding shows. I won my first one and finished mid-pack in the others. Over time, the bodybuilding lifestyle took its toll. It became a constant yo-yo of eating everything in sight to gain mass, then dieting hard for months just to step on stage, only to bulk back up again. I realized it wasn’t a healthy way to live.
In 2010 I earned my CrossFit Level 1 certificate. At the time I was still training like a bodybuilder and knew very little about CrossFit. During the course I did my first WOD—Fran—and was instantly hooked. I wanted to learn everything I could about this style of training and develop as many skills as possible. One of the most rewarding things I’ve discovered is how surprised people are by the results they can achieve with consistent effort.
I also adopted a Paleo-style approach to eating once I saw how strongly food affected my performance. My philosophy on nutrition shifted: I now base my food choices more on how they make me feel than on how they taste.
Fitness has changed my life both in and out of the gym. The best part of my job is getting to continue my own journey while helping others do the same.
My faith in Christ is my motivation. I believe He put me in the position to serve Him by serving others and His plan is for me to serve and help as many people as He allows me too.
